What to ask before you hire a motorcycle or book a tour
- What licence and riding experience do you require, and do you accept a licence from another country? Bring the licence that shows your motorcycle class, not just a car licence.
- What is the deposit, and what is the insurance excess? Ask what you owe for a tip-over in a car park, because that is the most common claim.
- Is there a daily distance limit, and where can I not take the bike? Some hire companies rule out unsealed roads, ferries, or crossing a border.
- Is gear included, or can I hire a helmet and jacket? Your own helmet will still fit better.
- On a guided tour: how big is the group, what pace do you ride, and does a support van carry the luggage? Ask for the route before you book.
